Aegon AM launches Capital Call Finance Fund

Aegon Asset Management today announces the launch of the Aegon Capital Call Finance Fund (the Fund), available to institutional investors in Europe and the UK.

Operating as a Luxembourg domiciled Reserved Alternative Investment Fund (RAIF), the Fund aims to provide access to the growing market for Capital Call Finance globally. It offers investors access to superior risk-adjusted returns with an investment grade risk profile and short maturity. The Fund is evergreen in nature with liquidity options matching the short duration of the underlying loan portfolio.

Launching with multiple third-party clients, the Fund builds on Aegon AM’s substantial alternative fixed income capabilities, comprising a team of 60 investment professionals managing €84bln1.

The Fund will be managed by a six-strong Fund Finance investment team based in Europe, supported by Aegon AM’s global Private Equity investment, Leveraged Finance and Research teams.

Since 2018, the Aegon AM’s Fund Finance team has invested more than €4bln across 100+ transactions in fund finance2. The strategy has performed strongly against its objectives, with no credit risk migration and no credit losses to date3

Bas Kragten, Head of Fund Finance and Infrastructure Debt at Aegon AM, said: “Capital Call facilities continue to be an important financing tool for private market funds. These credit facilities enable fund managers to bridge capital needs before calling down fund commitments from Limited Partners (LPs).

“Backed by our strong track record and first mover advantage, the launch of the Aegon Capital Call Finance Fund draws on this opportunity by offering investors access to a new asset class alongside market-leading co-investors.”

Erik den Hertog, Head of Client Group Continental Europe at Aegon AM, added: “As one of Europe’s largest Alternative Fixed Income asset managers, we have seen our AuM grow to over €80 billion in the last decade. We are delighted to announce the launch of our Capital Call Finance Fund with three initial clients, demonstrating our strategic priority to expand our Alternative Fixed Income platform as we leverage our scale and long-standing expertise to create innovative solutions for our growing client base.”

Aegon Asset Management UK plc is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Aegon Investment Management B.V. is authorised and regulated by the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets. Aegon Asset Management Luxembourg RAIF Funds is a reserved alternative investment fund (Fonds d'Investissement Alternatif Réservé) in the form of a public limited liability company with variable capital established and existing under the Luxembourg law. It is structured as an umbrella fund, including a number of ring-fenced sub-funds and as of today two of the sub-funds have been notified to the CSSF: Aegon IG Insured Credit Fund (notified on 29 September 2022) and Aegon Capital Call Finance Fund (notified on 7 February 2025). Carne Global Fund Managers (Luxembourg) S.A. has been appointed as the alternative investment fund manager of the RAIF (AIFM) and its sub-funds and Aegon Investment Management B.V. has been further delegated by the AIFM to act as the investment manager of the RAIF and its sub-funds. The RAIF and its sub-funds are not directly subject to the regulatory supervision of the CSSF. As per common Luxembourg practice, regulatory oversight is performed via supervision on the licensed Alternative Investment Fund Manager (AIFM) of the Fund, who is required to disclose to the CSSF the Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs, including RAIFs) as well as their sub-funds, that it manages and deposit the relevant fund documents with the CSSF. The authorised, licensed and supervised AIFM also must ensure that the RAIF managed by it complies with all AIFMD requirements applicable, including amongst others, the appointment of a depositary and an independent auditor. In this sense, a RAIF is an indirectly regulated fund in Luxembourg.
