Aegon Asset Management appoints Head of Fiduciary Management

Aegon Asset Management is underlining its commitment to its Netherlands based fiduciary business with the appointment of Karin Roeloffs to the newly created position of Head of Fiduciary Management.

Reporting to Chris Thompson, Aegon AM’s Head of Client Group, Roeloffs will join the business on 1st December 2020. She will be responsible for chairing the Fiduciary Management Committee and with taking the business to the next stage of its development while maintaining and further developing its existing client relationships in The Netherlands.

The fiduciary business, which recently rebranded to Aegon AM following the retirement of the TKP Investment brand in September, is a key part of the asset manager’s global growth strategy. To support this strategy Aegon AM brought its European and US businesses together to create a truly global asset management business under the Aegon AM brand.  These changes aim to enhance its client outcomes through leveraging Aegon AM’s global resources while maintaining its local client focus.

Roeloffs has over 30 years’ experience in financial services, with a strong background in investment strategy, client relationships, corporate governance and risk management.

In her new role, she will help Dutch pension funds and insurers benefit from Aegon AM’s deep knowledge and understanding of the Dutch pension and insurance market, while accessing its broad range of global expertise, including multi-manager solutions, alternative and ESG & Impact strategies.

She joins the business from her current role as an independent advisor working with asset management and pension consultancy firm Avida International, advising its clients on corporate, commercial and investment strategy, organization and governance.

Roeloffs’ previous roles include Market Business Leader at Mercer Investments (Benelux), where she led a team of 25 consultants advising pension funds and insurance companies on portfolio construction, management selection and monitoring as well as reporting and risk management. Prior to Mercer, she was Head of Client Portfolio Management at APG Asset Management and held several roles at ABN Amro Asset Management, latterly as Head of Financial Institutions & Corporate Clients Benelux.

Roeloffs was also on the Supervisory Council of General Pension Fund STAP but has resigned her position to take up her new responsibilities.

Commenting on her appointment Thompson says: ‘Karin’s appointment underlines our commitment and determination to grow our business in the fiduciary market in The Netherlands. Karin brings with her a wealth of experience from working with and advising pension funds and insurance companies across the Benelux region and by leveraging this knowledge, we plan to grow the business while maintaining our emphasis on local delivery for new and existing clients.’
